As you have probably already heard, Domino’s had a crisis on their hands last week when employees in Conover, NC posted a video on YouTube of employees doing disgusting things to a sandwich. Some of the awfulness includes: placing snot on a sandwich, sticking cheese up an employees nose, farting on salami.
With social media’s ability to spread information quickly, the video was viewed and shared by disgusted consumers and was all over the news.
Domino’s responded with their own post on YouTube:
I don’t know about everyone else, but for me the damage has already been done, it will be hard to eat Domino’s again. Especially their sandwiches.
With social media, it’s important for brands and employees to realize the affect that one video (even if it’s a prank) can have on a company. It will interesting to watch how/if/when Domino’s recovers.

Last winter BMW in Germany took a different approach to the seasonal marketing of snow tires, instead of direct mail they launched a MMS campaign to 1,200 BMW owners to encourage them to buy new tires. The result was a 30% conversion rate and an extremely successful campaign. You can read the entire case study over at Mobile Marketer, but I wanted to quickly point out the two key success points BMW learned about mobile marketing.
- Keep it simple – Instead of trying to wow users with features, BMW kept their message and its complementary application simple and easy to use. The Mobile platform is about speed and quickness. Providing customers an easily route to discover new information is the best chance a company has at holding their attention.
- Keep it relevant – In the case of this small campaign, BMW was dealing with a niche group. By providing an application that could demonstrate how new tires would work on a specific model of car, BMW was able to provide extremely relevant information.

I found this story while doing my morning client media monitoring. It made me laugh and that is always a good thing on Good Friday!
Wilcox Memorial Hospital (Lihue, HI) has a policy that allows visitors to bring pets to visit recuperating patients. Staff a few weeks ago were taken by surprise, however, when an intoxicated man took the policy to its illogical conclusion. He called in advance to say he was coming, but the front desk was closed. That evening security staff apprehended the man emerging from the third floor elevator with what he said was his friend’s horse. The patient was allowed to come out to see the horse before it was taken back down the elevator, but unfortunately for good intentions, it was the wrong horse.
