If you’ve never eaten at Sunflowers Café on West Peace Street in Raleigh, September would be a good time to visit. Our own Ann Neely will have show of her latest ‘Plein Air’ watercolors on display at Sunflowers through September.

All of these works are of Raleigh or North Carolina historic neighborhoods, painted ‘en plein air’ (outdoors).

  • ‘500 Blount’ was juried into the Raleigh City Museum’s ‘Historic Landmarks of Raleigh’ show which ran through the summer
  • ‘Devereux Street’ took first place at the 2010 Raleigh ‘Paint-Out’

All the work has museum quality framing, and is ready to display in your home. Ann will be there on First Friday and would love to see you there!

Dalton Ghetti is a carpenter who in his spare time carves tiny sculptures on the ends of pencils.

It is amazing how much skill and patience this guy has.

Dan Nelson Painting

Our 2009 BASF illustrator,  Dan Nelson will be painting outside the Little Gallery in Cameron Village from 5-8 pm on June 17th.
Watching Dan paint and interacting with him is nothing short of fun and amazing!  He has frequented downtown Raleigh scenes in the last 10 years and delights crowds with his oils, watercolors, and acrylics.  Go visit for fun and a bit of food and libation to tide you over until dinner.  A collection of his completed works will already be hanging on gallery walls and will continue to do so until July 4th.

Tara’s Top Three Tweets of the Month

As usual, I’ve been incredibly busy lately, and there have been a TON of great articles tweeted out that I’ve wanted to blog about.  Since I’m short on time, I’ll just mention a few articles that are really, really informative and/or inspirational.  And instead of sticking with just one topic like I’ve done in the past, this collection of links are quite diverse – from cool billboards to Google to typographic effects in portraits.

The ‘Paint Out’ was open to all 2-dimensional artists, except photographers.

Quite a challenge!

Sean Adams: AdamsMorioka, A Very Special Episode.
Wednesday, April 14, 2010 6:30 pm – 9:00 pm Burns Auditorium @ NC State – College of Design – Kamphoefner Hall
NC State College of Design
Boney Dr
Raleigh, NC 27605

AIGA Raleigh will be presenting an evening of insight and inspiration with Sean Adams, as he discusses the evolution of the AdamsMorioka brand. He will talk in depth about their self-promotion practices and how that relates to business.

As he describes it, “This will be a frank and honest discussion answering some of the questions I’ve heard over the years. How did we start? Is it true we’re media whores? If so, how did we do it? How do we decide what to work on? Has Noreen ever abused me? And any other question you may have, but would be afraid to ask.”

Sean Adams has been recognized by every major competition and publication — from Communication Arts and Graphis to AIGA and the New York Art Director’s Club.

AdamsMorioka has been exhibited often including a solo exhibition at The San Francisco Museum of Modern Art. Sean is President ex officio and past national board member of AIGA, and President ex officio of AIGA Los Angeles. He teaches at Art Center College of Design, is a frequent lecturer and competition judge internationally, and has been cited as one of the 40 most important people shaping design internationally in the ID40.
