The recent baby boom at HM&P has shown our team’s knack for multitasking. Pictured here during a meeting are Laura McAliley with her 4-month old daughter, Katy, and Nicole Curtis who is due any day now! Continue Reading >
It’s an HM&P Baby Boom!

Mom-to-be Nicole working with her feet up!
Yes, there’s been a baby boom at HM&P. I don’t recommend drinking the water.
In the PR department alone we’ve had three babies since last June. Stephanie Styons welcomed baby Shane, who just celebrated his first birthday! Next, Celina joined Elizabeth Romero’s family in February, and my daughter, Katy, arrived in April. We even have one on the way – Baby Hailey Marie Curtis (see photo of Nicole), is due in August.
Tee It Up!
The 2nd annual (last one was in 1999) HM&P Golf Outing is set for Saturday, August 7. This exciting Superball or Captain’s Choice format tournament will be played at Reedy Creek Golf Club and Spa. Your $44 entry fee includes golf, cart, and lunch (chicken, barbeque, slaw, hush puppies, and tea). Throw in another $6 for prizes and it’s the best $50 entertainment bargain in Wake County. Tee times start at 9:48am, and the outing is open to all HM&P staff, clients, friends, and friends of friends. Continue Reading >
Cambiando Vidas: Actions Speak Louder than Words
Last week I had the opportunity to travel to the Dominican Republic and volunteer with Cambiando Vidas (Changing Lives), a U.S. based non-profit organization “dedicated to the idea that every person should have access to the basics of life – food, clothing, shelter, education, and the chance to exercise his or her skills and ambitions.” The organization focuses on building houses, educating youth and encouraging sustainable economic development in rural towns throughout the region.
For a week I worked with a group of 16 volunteers (including my dad, sister and good friend from college) as well as members of the local community to build a new house for a deserving family. Though I enjoyed time away from technology and social media for a week, I was able to learn important lessons in communicating the old fashioned way.
Video Tape
Something scary is going on in the creative department at HM&P. And it involves a whole lot of duct tape.

This Saturday at the Pourhouse. Open your hearts and wallets for Angel Mission medical clinic in Haiti. All proceeds will go directly to Angel Mission. 5 bands, one low cover….a chance to do good while having a blast. Hope to see you and your friends there. Doors at 7, bands start promptly at 8.
My dentist Dr. Randall Bennefield and David Burney (whom some of you may know) are in the Johnny Folsom 4, a Johnny Cash tribute band. They play frequently in Raleigh. Check them out and support a good cause!

It’s Tuesday the 13th? Yikes!
Churchy LaFemme, the mud turtle who was one of the principal characters in cartoonist Walt Kelly’s satirical comic strip Pogo (1948-1975), was as superstitious as a summer day is long — so much so that he would panic whenever he discovered that: “Friday the 13th come on a Tuesday this month!” (Or on any other day of the week, for that matter).
As it turns out, though, for Latinos Friday the 13th does come on a Tuesday, because in Spanish-speaking countries, Tuesday — not Friday — the 13th is traditionally considered to be the day of bad luck.
Do you see the problem?
People in Latin America are forced to face the purported hazards of Tuesday — though not Friday — the 13th, while non-Hispanic folks in the U.S. and Canada need to navigate the perils of Friday — though not Tuesday — the 13th.
We bicultural U.S. Hispanics, however, must contend with both.
So, you know, yikes!
