For the love of all things written, please use spell check…. every time. Using ‘rediculous’ makes you look RIDICULOUS and the mistake is easily caught with spell check. (I know J.J. Reddick needs the attention in the misspelling, but I don’t think anything can help his publicity now.) It’s not even a contraction mistake or homonym. Sorry for the rant, but taking the five seconds to spell check can really save your credibility.

In the advertising, marketing and PR world, there are so many words flying around. There is content for a Web site, content written for ads and advertorials, product write-ups, brand summaries and on and on.
How often do we go back and review completed writing to make sure it accomplishes our goals and strategic direction? How many times have you re-read something and thought “this doesn’t even make sense”? Well I have found a few tips on Brian Clark’s (@copyblogger) blog. He has great insight on intentional writing and one of his co-bloggers, Steve Errey, outlines writing with confidence. I think this post is worth reading.
How to Write With Confidence.
What other tips have you found for your writing skills?

Roses, chocolates, candy hearts and…AP Style?
10,000 Words, a site that follows journalism and technology, managed to add Romance to the school-yard staples Reading, ‘Riting and ‘Rithmatic with its second annual “Happy VDay: Valentines for Journalists” blog post. The site hilariously incorporates newsroom mainstays such as bylines, crime beats, quotes and word counts into sweet, bite-sized sentiments.

Every Monday, the New Yorker Magazine holds a Cartoon Caption Writing Contest. The Qualified Winner of each Cartoon Caption Contest will receive a print of the cartoon, with the caption, signed by the artist who drew the cartoon (the “Prize”).
The deadline for this week’s contest is Sunday March 29th. Here’s the cartoon and my lame entry:

“Number 1. Thou shalt not eat MSG.”
C’mon you can do better than a hack copywriter.
Here’s the link to the actual contest:
