Selling Social Media To Your Boss
An issue that is central to most discussions about social media marketing regardless if it is on the agency side or the client side is the idea of selling social media to your boss. We all have a “boss” from the agency perspective it is the client, while from an internal communications perspective it could be middle management, investors, or senior management. One of the best presentations I have seen on this topic comes from Charlene Li, who is the co-author of Groundswell.

Li presents clearly the foundation for properly educating organizations about using social media. I agree that education, goal setting, and a focus on relationships not technology are the keys to successfully selling social media to your “boss”.

This is a really good presentation. It can certainly can help to prepare someone for a discussion with a boss or whomever they need to talk to about the benefits and realities of social media.
This gets to the source of the issues many business leaders have with social media – they don’t understand it and therefore can’t see any ROI potential. This helps articulate how to package social media programs in a way that makes it digestible and understandable.
