Social media and…agriculture?

What’s the first thing that comes to your mind when you think about social media – Is it Mashable? Twitter? The latest news (and N.C. sensation) about Apple and its iPhone?

For a growing part of the online community, social media also goes hand in hand with cows and corn. The agriculture industry has embraced online tools such as Twitter chats, Facebook pages and live-blogging to promote the people that take food from the farm to our forks. More »

Raleigh City Museum Plein Air Art Exhibition

Raleigh En Plein Air, the Raleigh City Museum’s newest exhibit, is opening to the public on First Friday, May 7, from 6:00p.m. to 9:00p.m. The museum collaborated with the Visual Art Exchange to showcase some of the city’s finest local artists and their paintings inspired by the city and the immediate surrounding areas. Giving Back

Last week at the annual NutriDense kick-off meeting, HM&P coordinated a service project – to give back to the community and have some team bonding at the same time. We spent the afternoon at Three Square a relatively new, state of the art Food Bank that supports Southern Nevada.

The team packed more than 40,000 pounds of frozen meat into 40 pound boxes for the local agencies. It was a great experience.

Toy Story 3 Goes Viral

_1265932168Lots-O’-Huggin’ Bear, one of the new characters from Pixar’s Toy Story 3, is making the rounds as 1980′s TV ads. The ads look real. They look just like TV you recorded onto VHS ages ago so you wouldn’t miss the new Saved By The Bell or Miami Vice, complete with sound glitches and fuzzy video artifacts. Amazing work Pixar! They’ve released 2 (so far): the 1983 ad for American audiences and another 80′s ad from Japan.

And to complete the illusion, Pixar created a YouTube account and filled it with real vintage TV ads, sprinkling in their fakes.

Brilliant.

Lots-O’-Huggin’ Bear will be on the big screen June 18th with Buzz, Woody, and the rest of the Toy Story crew, and in your homes as a plush toy as soon as you click through and buy him for a mere $30. Your kids will thank you.

Introduction to Social Media for B2B Food Service Companies

I recently attended a client marketing workshop and presented an introduction to social media for B2B companies. Since the meeting was for food distributors, I created a presentation that used examples from food businesses to present the various platforms used across the social web, including blogs, Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, communities and online solutions. This presentation was meant to provide an overview into social media and just let people know what is out there. More »

Se habla español – Part 3

LatinFlags_3As we mentioned in Post Number 15, Hispanics prefer to be addressed in Spanish by advertisers.

But what kind of Spanish are we talking about?

Don’t cubanos and costarricenses and colombianos and chilenos speak different versions of the language?

To say nothing of  panameños and paraguayos and puertorriqueños and peruanos?

Engage by Brian Solis – A Review

I recently finished Brian Solis‘ new book, Engage, after some stop and go reading over the past month. Overall I thought it was a great book with some good examples and case studies to keep in my back pocket.  In the end though, I think it could be broken into two separate books: New Media University and Postgrad.

The first half does a great job of breaking down social media theory and tools via courses in the “New Media University”.  Solis encourages even those who consider themselves social media PhD’s to start from square one and review what makes up the intricacies of social media:

“For those well versed in social media and the tools that connect us to those we wish to reach, enjoy this chance to hit “ctrl-alt=del” and restart with a fresh perspective.  For those new to the socialization of media and influence, please take your time here. This is were everything begins.”

By the time you receive your New Media U. MBA you have covered an extensive library of tools available and have been introduced to a myriad of examples and case studies that prove the value of those tools.  I enjoyed reviewing and reminding myself of the resources that can foster relationships, conversation and reputation both personally and for brands and business.
