Social media and…agriculture?
What’s the first thing that comes to your mind when you think about social media – Is it Mashable? Twitter? The latest news (and N.C. sensation) about Apple and its iPhone?
For a growing part of the online community, social media also goes hand in hand with cows and corn. The agriculture industry has embraced online tools such as Twitter chats, Facebook pages and live-blogging to promote the people that take food from the farm to our forks.
Agriculturalists (and even cows, as Mashable reported this week) have a wide variety of online resources to keep them on top of the latest social media news, ideas and applications. Truffle Media publishes podcasts on a variety of topics ranging from dairy and beef to poultry and swine. I’m always interested in its AgMedia Conversations interviews, where editor John Blue talks with communicators and farmers across the country about how their farm, business or agency is using social media to talk with their peers and customers.
I spoke with John a few weeks ago on how one of our clients, BASF Plant Science’s NutriDense, has used blogging and Twitter to do just that. Listen in to our chat over on the Truffle Media AgMedia Conversations site.
