When Do You Tweet? Hubspot Webinar: "The Science of Timing"

I participated in my first Hubspot webinar this week with over 25,000 other people. Dan Zarrella shared his research on “The Science of Timing” in a great presentation.

The webinar was so popular because the topic of timing for posting e-mails, Tweets and blog posts has been widely disputed. I learned a lot and I wanted to share some of my key takeaways:

  • One of the most important things to consider before you experiment with timing: Who is your audience? What are your goals?
  • More people live in the Eastern Standard Time zone than any other. Keep that in mind when posting blogs, tweets and Facebook posts.
  • Your tweets are most likely to be re-tweeted between 2 p.m. and 5 p.m. EST. Late in the day and later in the week are the most re-tweetable times.
  • Tweet more, but don’t crowd your content. Space out your tweets to showcase your best content.
  • Weekends are best for Facebook sharing. People also have more time on the weekends to answer emails and post on your blog.
  • Send email early in the morning. Email open rates are higher early in the morning from 5 a.m. to 7 a.m. EST.
  • Your newest subscribers are your best. Hit new email subscribers with high-value content & offers.
  • Know your audience when posting to your blog. Men tend to read blogs later in the day, women tend to read blog posts early in the morning. Target your demographic!

A new website created by Dan and the Hubspot team – Tweetwhen.com – allows you to enter in your Twitter name and email to see when you get the most re-tweets per Tweet. Check it out and let me know what you think!

Did you participate in the webinar? What were the most interesting takeaways for you?
