Capturing a Moment in Time, on Film

While taking a coffee break in our café gallery, I couldn’t help but notice the new photography posted along the walls. I decided to take a closer look to see just what these black and white photos were about.
As I got closer I realized that all of the people showcased were still, unplanned moments in daily life and that is what the photographer, and our Social Media Marketing Manager, Jeffrey L. Cohen is about. Cohen has had a camera by his side since his childhood years and because of that, he has learned to appreciate the development of photography.
In 2004, Cohen took a trip to Spain where he toured the three major cities: Grenada, Barcelona and Madrid. This was a monumental time in Spain as the monetary unit, the peseta, had just been replaced by the Euro, thereby changing the economy and the way of life in Spain forever.
Cohen captured precious moments of the citizens as their world was changing, and he used a fully-manual film camera to do so. He wanted to preserve the beauty of film just one last time before the digital camera age had taken over completely.
Photos of a saintly precession to shopping at the local market show people pausing for moments in time, but continuing to adapt to new changes that come their way. Cohen’s photography catches the busy person’s eye and allows them to take time out of their day to cherish the small things and the beauty that surrounds us all.
