Goodbye HM&P!

Atlanta Skyline at Sunset_ Georgia(1)I am sad to announce that today is my last day here at Howard, Merrell and Partners as a social media intern; however, I am happy to announce I finally got my first job!  I’m packing my things and relocating to Atlanta this Friday, and will be starting my new job as a social media manager next Tuesday.   Although I am so excited to begin my career and learn my way in a new city, I’ll miss being a part of the HM&P team! More Growth in Social Media

Over the past several years, the use of social media has grown exponentially and new statistics reveal that growth continues. According to a new research study, “Internet and Social Media Insights”, conducted by The Nielson Company, 75 percent of households engage in social networking. During the month of May, these users spent 6 hours and 13 minutes on social media sites throughout the month, almost double the average amount of time recorded last year (3 hours and 31 minutes). YouTube Now on TV?

If you’re a YouTube junkie like I am, you’ll be pleased to know that YouTube is now expanding its reach and allowing users to watch their favorite videos on their televisions.   Yesterday, YouTube announced the launch of YouTube Leanback, a program that plays high-definition videos formatted specifically for your television set.

Latest Version of Google Chrome Launches with Flash-Based Game

The latest version of Google Chrome is now available and comes standard with Adobe Flash.  To make people aware of this new feature, Google launched a Flash-based YouTube game called FastBall.

The goal of the game is to get a ball through an obstacle course in the fastest amount of time, but instead of the typical “manipulate the ball through the course” routine, players must answer a series of questions to advance the ball. Questions are all web-based and include challenges that use Google, Twitter and, of course, YouTube. Some examples of questions are “Choose the fastest method of transportation between points A and B using Google Maps” and “Search for three things that have decreasing results.”

Twitter Launches Places Feature

This week, Twitter announced the launch of a new Twitter Places feature that allows users to tweet their exact location.  With this feature, users have the ability to tag their tweets and add new locations.   Users can also view public tweets from nearby and a list of local points of interest. Tweet, Tweet…Meow?

Since Twitter’s launch in 2006, the social media site now has more than 21 million users and averages about 3 million tweets each day.   According to the Pew Research Center, the largest percentage of users fall in the 25 to 34 age range.

I’m from Greensboro, NC and I recently graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. While attending UNC, I majored in journalism with a concentration in advertising and Spanish.  Although graduating was a bit of a bummer, I’m looking forward to my internship at HM&P. More »
