Happy Holidays from Phineas Gage

phineas-gage

Anyone who has visited the Howard, Merrell & Partners office has surely seen our unique bronze sculpture of Phineas Gage. He was a 19th Century railroad worker who had a section of his brain destroyed by an explosion. A large metal rod was lodged in his skull, causing the damage to his frontal lobe. This completely changed his personality and how he interacted with the world around him.

Our sculpture reminds us that advertising works when it connects with people on an emotional level, and the full functions of the brain are part of that connection.

This time of year, Phineas shows off his holiday cheer and is decked out for the season.

A Moustache is…

For the month of November, I have donated my face to raising awareness and support for men’s cancer. Money raised as part of Movember, a worldwide movement with a strong presence here in the North Carolina Triangle area, goes to Livestrong and the Prostate Cancer Foundation. I asked several HM&P staffers for their thoughts on moustasches. Watch the video below to see what they say.

To make a donation and support the cause, go to my Movember page.
