In the Office

Joshua Craig Recognized by Carolina Rollergirls

I’ve been lucky enough to have two blog articles written on me and my photography over at the Carolina Rollergirls blog in the past week.

I was recently interviewed by the Carolina Rollergirls: http://carolinarollergirls.wordpress.com/2010/08/18/joshuacraiginterview/

This is another post about the work I do for the league.http://carolinarollergirls.wordpress.com/2010/08/16/joshuacraig/

Here’s a few shots from the last home team bout.

Amazing Miniature Sculptures

Dalton Ghetti is a carpenter who in his spare time carves tiny sculptures on the ends of pencils.

It is amazing how much skill and patience this guy has.

Have Extra Staples?

French visual artist Baptiste Debombourg has taken ordinary office staples and turned them into works of art.

Wordle.net – Make Images From Keywords

Wordle is a great service which will take an RSS feed from your site (or anybody else’s site) and convert it to an image.  Larger words are found more often, smaller words are found less.

Here are a couple of examples.

From our very own blog (http://www.merrellgroup.com/blog/feed/):

Gaining Recognition for Roller Derby Photography

As many of you know, I am one of the photographers for the Carolina Rollergirls roller derby team.

Back in November, Raleigh hosted the Wicked Wheels of the East regional tournament and now some of my photographs from that event have found a home on the website of the Philadelphia Inquirer.

Philadelphia was the winner of the Eastern Regionals in quite the upset.

Need something to do? Think about roller derby.

Few people know this, but roller derby is making a comeback and Raleigh is lucky enough to have one of the top leagues in the nation.

The Carolina Rollergirls came in #6 nationally in 2008 and are currently #4 in the Eastern Division according the WFTDA (World Flat Track Derby Association) standings.

Some of the older people reading this will say “Oh, I remember that.”, but this is not the hokey, fake-wrestling (don’t get offended wrestling fans) type of roller derby from the 60s and 70s.  This is pure sport.  It is fast, it is powerful and it is extremely fun to watch.

Below are a few photos from local bouts (I am one of the volunteer photographers for the league).

Looking For Free Mac Apps To Make Yourself More Productive?

I’m often looking for apps to help myself be a little more organized or help myself get a task done better or more quickly.

The following link will take you to a great listing of apps that you may or not already know about.

Name Changer and Anxiety are two of my favorite lesser known apps.

Name Changer allows you to instantly rename a group of files.  Very handy if you shoot hundreds of photographs at an event and need to rename and number them to reflect the event.

Anxiety is just an extremely handy to do list that ties in with iCal.

Thanks to Designer Dash Daily Dot Com for putting together such a great list!

7 ADDYS. 7 Fried Hot Dogs. 1 Judge's Choice.

Addys 2009

Fried Logic is happy to report that HM+P took home seven ADDY Awards at the 2009 Triangle ADDYs, including the Judges’ Choice in the Mixed Media category. In addition, copywriter Steve Olshansky took home seven fried hot dogs in his ever expanding waistline. The dogs were one of the many fried food offerings at this year’s gala soirée held at the new Durham Performing Arts Center, or DPAC. Fried food because the theme of the event was “Southern Fried Advertising.” Get it? The band: kind of fun, kind of dorky, kind of too loud. The crowd: lots of guys sporting the Ryan Seacrest look – torn jeans, Urban Outfitters t-shirt and blazer. And the women, well, looking quite glamorous this year.
